Update: the shooter has been found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the woods near his previous place of employment. A letter was found at his home explaining that by the time the letter was found, he wasn't planning on behind alive.

Yesterday evening, there was an active shooter situation at a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, and as of 12:15PM EST, there remains an intensive manhunt as the shooter is still at-large and considered armed and dangerous. The center in which the shooting took place was Sparetime Recreation Lewiston, also known as Just-in-Time Recreation, located at 24 Mollison Way. The other shooting location is a restaurant named Schemengees Bar & Grille, which is about 4.2 miles from the bowling center. Reports are confirming that the death toll has risen to 18 people with 13 more injured in total. Of the 18, seven are said to have been killed at the bowling alley, including one woman and six men.  All died from apparent gunshot wounds.  Another eight of the victims were found at the Bar & Grille, including seven men inside the establishment and one more found outside.

Police have released details of a person of interest, possibly believed to be the shooter.  His name is Robert Card and he was driving a 2013 Subaru Outback with license plate 9246PD. Police have released an image of the vehicle, which can be seen below. Law enforcement is confirming he is a firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserve. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, including eight counts of murder. A family member of the suspect had told police his next location would be Mixers Nightclub & Lounge.

Card, 40, has a date of birth of 4/4/83 and was stationed at the Army Reserve outside of Saco, Maine. He recently made threats to carry out a shooting at the National Guard Facility in Saco, Maine, and also reported mental health issues, including hearing voices. The sheriff's office released images of the suspect and he can be seen holding a high-powered assault-style rifle.  Residents of Lewiston and the neighboring town of Lisbon are under shelter-in-place orders.  Lewiston public schools and surrounding area schools have cancelled classes for tomorrow.

large.Maine-3.jpg.d3418b85ddf6c01720c7a8The shootings started around 6:56PM EST and eyewitnesses reported seeing people running from the bowling center.  Witnesses of the shooting in Lewiston were said to be of all ages, including some teenagers, and that the community was in complete shock.  No children were believed to have been killed, though one high school student was said to have been injured.

A source with direct knowledge of the situation said the head mechanic, who was not on duty at the time of the shooting, but was bowling in a league at another center,  is alleging that 3 employees of the center were victims in the shooting, though this is unconfirmed. Numerous posts on Facebook are confirming the 3 victims who bowling alley employees were Thomas Giberti, Tricia Asselin and Bob Violette. Giberti was the manager at Just-in-Time Recreation on duty at the time of the shooting and is currently in critical condition. It appears the suspect may have been a member of the bowling community as someone with that name in that area has a Bowl.com profile.
